For 1 burger
If you get out a bit, you’ve probably already heard of/took a bite out of a McDonald’s Big Mac. Well, I found a way to recreate this burger at home, and on the grill nonetheless. 😉
In order for you to taste the difference and make everyone happy at home, I’m sharing my recipe with you, my Big Max burger recipe, which I named in honor of my brother.
Of course, the secret of the Big Mac is its sauce, so I made sure to create an ultimate version for the Big Max. 😎 (Seriously, it’s so good that you won’t believe that it doesn’t directly come from the golden arches. 😜)
Here we go!
Ingredients:
For the Big Max:
- Slices of bacon, to taste (optional)*
- Ground beef, to taste
- The House of BBQ Experts’ Booster flavor enhancer, to taste
- 2 orange (or white, or marble) cheese slices
- 2 hamburger buns (you only need 2 bottom buns and 1 top bun)
- Lettuce, sliced into strips, to taste
- White onion, chopped, to taste
For the Big Max sauce:
- 4 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 ½ tablespoons House of BBQ Experts’ Ketchot sauce
- 1 tablespoon House of BBQ Experts’ Colonel Mustard sauce
- The House of BBQ Experts’ Booster flavor enhancer, to taste
- 1 tablespoon relish
- ½ tablespoon chopped onion
Preparation:
For the Big Max:
- Preheat the grill to around 450°F, with a direct and an indirect cooking zone.
- Place the bacon slices in the indirect cooking zone and let them cook and become crispy without turning them prior to removing them from the grill (optional)*.
- Form 2 burger patties with the ground beef. (If you want really thin ones, you can even smash them with the House of BBQ Experts’ Smash Burger Press. 😉)
- Sprinkle some Booster flavor enhancer on both sides of each patty.
- Increase the temperature of the grill so that it heats to about 600°F.
- Place the patties on the grill’s grids, in the direct cooking zone, and let them sear and caramelize. Flip them over when they easily unstick of the grids.
- Meanwhile, prepare the Big Max sauce (see steps below).
- When the patties are well seared, transfer them to the indirect cooking zone and let them cook until they have an internal temperature of around 160°F.
- Cover the patties with a slice of cheese and let it melt on them.
- Sear the burger buns on both sides in the direct cooking zone. (Be careful, this is not the time to go get a beer, this step is very quick!)
- Once everything is ready, remove the ingredients from the grill.
- Crumble the bacon slices (optional)*.
- Assemble the Big Max by first spreading the sauce on each bun. After that, place a patty on a bottom bun, and then, sprinkle it with bacon (this is optional)*. Add some lettuce and chopped onion on top of everything, and repeat the process to create a 2nd layer to the burger. Finally, top the burger off with the top bread.
- Serve and enjoy this burger filled with happiness!
For the Big Max sauce:
- Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix. Readjust the doses as needed.
- Serve and enjoy!
*You may be thinking, “Come on! There is no bacon in a Big Mac!” I know that, but if you don’t add any, you’re really missing out! Either way, the more bacon in something, the more delicious it is! 🥓
Happy grilling!
