Grilling the most delicious snow crab 🦀

snow crab

Snow crab on the BBQ? Oh yes, you can!

But you have to hurry up because the snow crab season is limited with a duration of about six weeks. For the Eastern Canadian the fishing starts in early April and we will find the crustacean in the fish markets until mid-May. The crab that we buy is usually already cooked. It requires little cooking and if you add herbs it’s usually enough to appreciate the delicate flavor of the crab. Grilling the crab on the BBQ means you’ll retain maximum taste. In addition, as always, grilling on the BBQ means no dirty dishes!

Recipes:

For 2 people
Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

4-6 sections of snow crab
1-2 lemons cut in half and grilled
Flavored butter for cooking and serving
Spicy mayonnaise to accompany the crab

Flavored butter:

1 cup of melted salted butter
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
½ to 1 teaspoon of House of BBQ Experts Carribean spice mix
1 tablespoon of House of BBQ Experts Bourbon Maple sauce
3 tablespoon of finely chopped parsley
Pepper to taste
* Divide the recipe in 2 (cooking and accompaniment)

Spicy Mayonnaise:

â…“ cup of mayonnaise
The juice of half a lime
1 teaspoon of House of BBQ Experts Argentina spice mix
2 teaspoon of maple syrup
1 tablespoon of chopped chives

Preparation:

Preheat the BBQ to 400 °F;
Turn on the burners for indirect cooking;
On the pale part of the crab, cut a rectangle in the shell of the legs with a paring knife (this will allow the flavors to reach the flesh during cooking);
Place the lemons on the direct cooking area;
Place the crab sections on the indirect cooking arera;
Brush the crab with the flavored butter;
Cook for 3-4 minutes without opening the BBQ lid;
Remove the lemons and preserve;
Turn the crab over, brush again and continue cooking for 3-4 minutes;
Brush one last time;
Serve with a dash of grilled lemon, remaining flavored butter and / or spicy mayonnaise.

Tips:

The body of the crab is not eaten; detach the legs before cooking, you can use the carcass for your crustacean broth;
Calculate 2 to 3 sections of snow crab per person for a complete meal;
If the crab is raw, double the cooking time (12-15 minutes total);
The crab is ready when a soft sweet smell comes from it;
Use crabmeat in your risottos, sandwiches, pizzas, crab rolls, stuffed burgers and mac n ‘cheese …
Use leftover butter to toast bread croutons and mayonnaise for your dips and sandwiches.

Enjoy!
